Local Sports Team YOU Should Get Involved with.

Joining a local sports team is an amazing way to get involved in the community. Maybe you are new to the area and you’re looking to meet new like-minded people or, maybe you’re a Devonian born and bred but you want to get fit or get involved in something new and exciting.

 

Sports teams help us to connect with each other. They build community and strength of unity between us. Sports clubs are also excellent for children, they are taught discipline, (training and respecting the ref) and it widens their social circle outside of school.

Here is a list of some of the sports teams in our local area!

 

Okehampton Rugby Football Club

 

Based just on the outskirts of Okehampton the RFC founded in 1884 is a big fixture in the local community with regular events being hosted in their clubhouse. With training and games held for children from as young as four to adults. 

 

North Tawton Rugby Football Club

 

North Tawton has had an excellent RFC that was founded in 1885. They offer children’s, men and women’s training and games. All conveniently located in the heart of the town with a clubhouse.

 

Okehampton Football Club

 

In the mood for a kick-about? Okehampton football club is the place for you. Located in Simmons Park. They hold weekly training sessions and regular games and have a clubhouse and bar.

 

Hatherleigh Football Club

 

The beautiful market town of Hatherleigh has a well-supported football club in the centre of town. 

 

Belstone Cricket Club

 

Want to play cricket while surrounded by the beauty of Dartmoor? Then Belstone community cricket club is the place for you! They have a thriving Colts section and well support senior leagues side.

 

Lewdown Cricket Club

 

Lewdown Cricket club holds regular training sessions and is open to people of all ages. It’s an excellent local team to join with three senior teams and five local teams to get involved with.

 

Okehampton Hockey Club 

 

Okehampton boasts an award-winning Hockey Club. Both the women’s and men’s team competed in the last regional competition with the men’s team walking away with an award.
