5 Ways To Improve Your Home’s Curb Appeal

14/12/2018

When we think about improving our homes, we often think only about improving the interior, and the outside can often be a last thought. There are a number of simple ways to give passers-by and maybe even potential buyers a great first impression, as well as increasing the value of your home.

From simple maintenance to a fresh lick of paint, there are a few straightforward ways that can have a huge impact, as well as saving you money from the prevention of future problems. Here, we have five ways you can easily improve your home’s curb appeal.

Freshen-up Your Front Door

Your front door is often the main focal point of the front of your home, so it is important that it gives a great first impression as the state of your front door will determine whether potential visitors will see that it is inviting.

Making small changes to your front door can rejuvenate it, and this can be done by a fresh lick of paint as well as using metal polish on any of the fixtures. Rust spots and dirt can make your door look old, so just apply the polish and clean the wood, plastic or glass. If you want to add a fresh lick of paint to your door, you can either choose a brand-new colour to give your home a fresh new look or stick to a neutral colour; it is completely up to you.

Brighten-up the Exterior

Whatever covers the exterior of your home, touching it up can really bring your home back to life, especially after the colder months have passed. Of course, you could completely re-render your home, but this can cost thousands of pounds.

However, repainting your windows and doors or even just giving them a clean can bring them back to life, as will repainting the exterior of your home. Additionally, you could also clean the exterior by using a pressure washer or hiring professional help.

Alternatively, if you don't want to spend too much, flowerpots and hanging baskets will make your home look a lot more attractive and give it a fresh appearance.  Another easy and cost-effective way to enhance your home’s curb appeal is to tidy up any path or driveways; simply use a power washer to remove any dirt, get rid of weeds and replace any cracks in the paving stones.

The Garden

Having a garden can be a great selling point if you are looking to put your home on the market, so it is important that it looks presentable. Although it is a great selling point, it is also nice to have a space where you can relax in the summer. It really doesn't take a lot of effort to fix your garden and improvements can give it more charm, in addition to adding value to your home.

Mowing the lawn, getting rid of any weeds and tidying up flowerbeds is the easiest way. However, if you want to change the look of your garden completely, you could add a water feature or decking area.

Lighting

Lighting is really important for the interior of your home and this should also be implemented on the exterior. This will add to its appeal as well as making your home more inviting. Just be sure to add lights that work well with your home, using modern-style lights on a newer home, for example. It is also worth considering solar panel lights around the outside of your home to save money on your electricity bill. You can light up your pathways, front porch, and anywhere else you see fit.

Add Plants

Front gardens can often look like a concrete jungle, so why not bring it to life with some plants or a flowerbed? You can opt for plants that are already potted and choose ones which stay green throughout the seasons as these will look good all year. Flowerbeds can be filled with brightly coloured flowers and plants of your choice, just be sure to tend to them throughout the year. Alternatively, if you don't have the room then just add some hanging baskets.  These are just a handful of tips to help boost your home’s curb appeal, which can also add value and look good to potential buyers if you are looking to sell.
